There are 558 patients on trolleys, or on wards, waiting admission to a hospital bed, according to the latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

These include seven patients at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, and six patients at Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street.

The overall figure is a slight increase on yesterday when there were 541 people on trolleys.

The worst affected hospital today is Cork University Hospital with 53 patients waiting, 40 patients are on trolleys at Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore and there are 39 at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Other hospitals badly affected include Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar with 36 patients on trolleys, University Hospital Limerick with 35 and University Hospital Galway with 34.
