Families with children affected by scoliosis and people with other spine problems are being invited to a major free conference next Tuesday with experts from around Europe.

A public information day of the Eurospine conference takes place from 2-6pm on Tuesday 10 October at the Convention Centre in Dublin.

The public session is free and no registration is needed.

Frank Dowling, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Blackrock Clinic, said the public session is a unique event which he hopes will be well attended.

Ireland has been affected by long waiting lists for scoliosis surgery, particularly for children.

Dr Dowling and other colleagues will be speaking at the public session.

He previously worked at Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin doing scoliosis surgery until retiring from the hospital ten years ago.

Eurospine is the annual general meeting of spine experts in Europe.

It runs from 11-13 October. Details of the speakers can be found at eurospine2017.eu
