Minister for Health Simon Harris has secured a long-term commitment from the Cabinet for the funding of Orkambi and Kalydeco drugs and future treatments for cystic fibrosis.

The commitment will result in the availability from next month of Orkambi to patients aged 12 years and older, and Kalydeco to patients aged two to five.

There is also a commitment to provide access to other treatments as they become available.

While the cost to the State of Orkambi is commercially sensitive, it is understood it will cost hundreds of millions over ten years.
