Eyewitness video filmed on Thursday showed an unusual waterspout off the coast of Spain's northeastern region of Catalonia swirling over the Mediterranean Sea.
Waterspouts are tornadoes that occur over a body of water but never reach land.
Although they are most common in tropical and subtropical areas, like Florida, they also occur in Europe.
They are characterised by a funnel-shaped cloud.
