The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the death of a 79-year-old Irishman in Italy earlier this week.
The Department is providing consular assistance in the case.
It is believed that the man died in the early hours of Thursday morning in the Tuscany area of Italy where he was undertaking a walking pilgrimage.
Local police are investigating.
