Watch: Irish climate scientist's COP30 video diary

Talks at the COP30 climate summit have entered their final week, with world leaders concentrating efforts on delivering a deal that reaffirms the 2015 Paris Agreement, while laying out clear plans for future climate action.

Asked if there was any one issue dominating the talks in Brazil, COP30 President André Aranha Corrêa do Lago replied: "Everything, everything. It's very complicated."

More than 50,000 delegates, including several from Ireland, are attending the crucial negotiations in Belém.

The city is at the mouth of the Amazon River and at the edge of the rainforest considered the lungs of the planet.

Irish climate scientist Dr Clare Noone from the University of Galway told RTÉ News that protecting the rainforest is essential if we are to reach net zero emissions targets.
