The Cabinet has agreed to start the process for ratifying the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Minister for the Environment Denis Naughten said he is seeking Dáil approval to ratify the agreement and hopes to have that in place before the next session of the 'Conference of the Parites, COP22' in Marrakesh next month.

The Paris Agreement was finalised in Paris last December when over 190 governments agreed to take action to limit the increase in global temperatures to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

This will involve very significant efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in the years ahead in our transport, agriculture, and residential sectors.
