Independent candidate Gerard Hutch is in contention for a seat in the Dublin Central constituency, placing fourth following six counts there.
Mr Hutch, also known as 'The Monk', has been described by the Special Criminal Court as the head of the Hutch family.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald took the first of four seats in the constituency on the third count. The quota needed to deemed elected there is 6,551.
Gary Gannon of the Social Democrats and Fine Gael's Paschal Donohoe also look secure to win seats with 6,363 and 5,730 votes after count six, respectively.
Following the sixth count, Mr Hutch was on 3,733 votes.
Also battling for the fourth and final seat in the constituency is Labour's Marie Sherlock and Fianna Fáil candidate Mary Fitzpatrick.
With just over 2,315 votes following the sixth count, it is unlikely that Green Party candidate Neasa Hourigan will retain her seat and could be one of a number of Green Party casualties.

Earlier, cross-party tally in Dublin Central were tallying the potential transfers from the candidates most likely to be eliminated first.
They said that if Ms Fitzpatrick is eliminated, about 10% of her transfers will go to Ms Sherlock and if Ms Hourigan goes, 40% of her transfers will go Labour's way.
However, they say those gains will be wiped out by the fact that 50% of Malachy Steenson's transfers are going to Mr Hutch.
On that basis, they are saying that Mr Hutch now looks most likely to take the fourth seat there.

Mr Hutch was found not guilty of the murder of Kinahan gang member David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in February 2016.
The murder led to an escalation in the ongoing feud between the Hutch and the Kinahan organised crime groups, which has so far cost 18 lives.
