With five outgoing TDs and four seats up for grabs, Cork South-Central is one of Election 2016's 'Groups of Death'. One TD was always going to lose out but Kevin Doyle, Irish Independent Political Editor, tells RTÉ's Morning Ireland that according to a poll for the newspaper, two TDs will be disappointed.
The Millward Brown poll puts Fianna Fáil's Michael McGrath in front on 19%, Sinn Féin newcomer Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire is next on 18% and Fine Gael's Simon Coveney and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin are on 17%. However, Fine Gael's Jerry Buttimer at 9% and Labour's Ciaran Lynch at 6% are a long way behind the other four, and, according to Doyle, it is hard to see how that gap can be bridged.
