Outgoing Independent Alliance TD Shane Ross has said that members of the Independent Alliance would not be bought off by cabinet positions or posts of that sort.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Six One News, Mr Ross said they would not be going in for what he described as 'this extraordinary orgy' of political promises, which he said was called auction politics.

Interview with Shane Ross, Independent Alliance

Asked if members of the alliance could potentially be picked off individually by a taoiseach of the day, to pick those who were compatible with a government, Mr Ross said the Independent Alliance is rock solid.

He said they were for stability and would not be bought off by cabinet positions or posts of that sort.

He said members of the Independent Alliance have core values but not core policies.

He said the core value they had was the free vote and they would support a government and keep it in office if it supported their core values.

Mr Ross said the Alliance candidates were putting a charter of change before the people and said they would not indulge in auction politics.

He said they would guarantee to keep a future taoiseach in office if he agreed to make radical changes forever to end civil war politics and end cronyism.

Asked how many seats they hoped to get, Mr Ross said they would be surprised if they do not get double digits.

He said he thought they were going to be in a position to change things responsibly but radically after the election.
