The Green Party has outlined its plans for expanding solar power.

Party leader Eamon Ryan said by rolling out solar power, he "thinks" it could create 3,000 jobs.

Mr Ryan said putting solar power on the roofs of houses and factories would put the power back in the hand of the public.

He said the roll-out is standard in other countries.

Regarding the rise in the party's position in the polls, he said he was pleased.

Asked if it may have anything to do with the party's High Court challenge in relation to its exclusion from the RTÉ Leaders' Debate, the Green leader said he would have preferred the publicity of being on the stage in Limerick to outline the party's issues.

He said one thing he has noticed in the past number of weeks is that the Social Democrats and the Greens are common regarding investment in services.

There would be a common argument in relation to housing, public transport and new energy systems, he claimed.
