The children's ombudsman has said living in hotels and bed and breakfasts is disruptive for children and is not conducive for family life.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Niall Muldoon added that he has raised concerns with Children's Minister James Reilly while he has also spoken to an Oireachtas committee and the UN committee on the rights of the child.

During Leaders' Questions in Dáil Éireann today, Deputy Micheál Martin took Enda Kenny to task over what he termed was the Taoiseach's "laissez-faire" attitude to the homeless crisis.

Mr Kenny responded by saying Mr Martin had no credibility when it came to the Irish economy.

Meanwhile, on Today with Sean O'Rourke, John Tully from the group Save Our Local Community labelled measures to tackle rural crime "a joke" and said a lot more needs to be done.
