Friday is a big day in the lives of tens of thousands of students who are receiving their Leaving Cert results.
For many, results day will bring a gamut of emotions.
But one TU Dublin graduate is keen to highlight that the points race isn't everything.
Kai Brosnan grew up in residential care and chose to leave secondary school shortly after completing his Junior Cert.
He said it was the right decision for him at the time as "I was dealing with a lot of trauma." But he started to feel as though he was falling behind when his peers began going to college and starting their careers.
"I didn't have a Leaving Cert, I always saw college as a door that was shut. I didn’t think someone like me could succeed," he said.
Kai went on to complete a PLC course in social care at The Liberties College in Dublin. He was then accepted to study Applied Social Care at TUD Blanchardstown, and has just finished with a first-class degree.
Kai hopes to break the "stigma around children in care that we’ll never make something of ourselves" and also highlight to other students that they can achieve their goals even if there are setbacks along the way.
