A new website to support autistic young people beginning higher level education or resuming on-campus studies next month has been launched.
One in 65 students in school in Ireland have a diagnosis of autism, according to the National Autism Charity AsIAm. 86% attend mainstream schools.
A new website funded by Rethink Ireland through the Innovate Together Fund provides resources and advice for new third-level students with autism.
It includes videos featuring other students who have had the same experience. It also includes financial and budgeting advice, virtual tours and simple recipes.
AsIAm has been working in recent years to make the university experience more autism-friendly.
In 2018, the charity launched the world's first framework for Universities to achieve a whole of campus accreditation for autism-friendly practice.
Dublin City University was the first higher level institution to implement the standard.
Since then, the National College of Ireland has also been accredited and no less than five other institutions are working towards the recognition.
