First day at school for four sets of twins in Co Galway

Four sets of twins have started in one junior infants class in Galway, in what the principal says is a first for the school.

The Principal of Scoil Sailearna in Indreabhán has said she does not think there have ever been four sets of twins in the one class in the history of the school, but it is beautiful.

Caitríona Uí Bhéarra said every student is special, but it is extra special having groups of twins.

Among those starting were five year olds Éabha Ní Fhátharta agus Joey Ó Fátharta.

Their father Aengus Ó Fátharta said it is tough enough to have to send a child to school for the first time, but he says to send them in and have to look at them through the window instead of bringing them into the classroom yourself it is strange.

Mr Ó Fátharta said having each other made things a little easier for his twins.

He said Éabha and Joey are twice the trouble but twice the fun and while they were nervous this morning they were also very excited.

He said there is no choice about it but they have to be very careful even in how they interact with other parents. He said hopefully the school would remain open for the next year at least.

Also starting today were Leon Mac Oitir agus Grace Nic Oitir, Somhairle and Conán Ó Tuairisg, and Ruby and Holly Faherty.

Another parent whose children started said it was a nervous and long night as they knew they were starting back to something they had not done in six months but everything worked out well.

He said it took a lot of effort to get schools reopened and the teachers had done a huge amount of work with sanitisation stations.
