Four new post-primary schools to be established in 2020 will be run by local state education boards while two others will be under the patronage of Educate Together, according to an announcement by the Department of Education today.
The four new Education and Training Board (ETB) schools are planned for Blanchardstown, and the Tallaght/Newcastle/Rathcoole areas of Dublin, as well as Kilcock in County Meath, and the Kilcoole/Greystones area of County Wicklow.
The two new Educate Together secondary schools will be in Dublin's Harold's Cross and in Goatstown.
Patronage was decided based on preferences expressed locally by parents.
The schools are all being established to address growing demographic need in the areas.
When fully developed the six new schools will cater for 5000 students between them.
Teaching at all six schools will be through English.
