Sarah Glennie has been appointed Director of the National College of Art and Design.
Ms Glennie, who is currently Director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, will take up her new role next January.
The NCAD has had an interim and then an acting director over the past year-and-a-half as the college grappled with long-term governance and accounting problems.
Former director Declan McGonagle stepped down in late 2015 citing personal reasons.
At the time, the college was beset by protests by students and staff who were strongly critical of accountancy practices and the impact of cutbacks and increased student numbers at the NCAD.
At one stage students occupied the college's boardroom and staff room.
