A number of Leaving Cert students faced a timetable clash today meaning they had to sit three exams in the one day.
The timetabling clash means that 175 students sat an Engineering exam this morning, followed by English Paper II this afternoon, before sitting a language exam this evening.
These are students originally from other EU member states who have opted to sit an exam in their native language.
Almost 1,500 students have enrolled to sit exams in EU languages such as Polish, Portuguese, Latvian or Romanian. Also Slovenian was added for the first time this year.
Exams in these so-called non-curricular subjects took place this morning, at the same time as Engineering.
Students who had a clash with Engineering and a language exam sat the Engineering paper.
The State Examinations Commission says that following a short break after their English exam this afternoon, the 175 students will return to exam centres for the language paper, their third test of the day, which will last another three hours.
Their break between exams will be supervised, with no access to phones.
