Five arrests after vehicle failed to stop, collided with two other cars in Dublin

Five people have been arrested after a car failed to stop for gardaí before crashing into two other vehicles in Dublin.

At around 1.40pm, a car with five occupants failed to stop for gardaí in the Knocklyon area.

The car was later involved in a collision with two cars driven by members of the public at Grange Road, Rathfarnham.

The five males in the car fled on foot and were pursued by gardaí, with the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit.

They were suspected of involvement in a burglary in Walkinstown, Dublin, a short time earlier.

Five people were subsequently detained at garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

Two - one in his 50s and the other a juvenile teenager - were arrested under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The juvenile has since been released pending further investigations.

A third, aged in his 20s, was arrested on foot of a bench warrant.

Two others, aged in their 20s, were detained for the purposes of a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act and later released without charge.

All three occupants of the two cars driven by the members of the public were brought to Tallaght University Hospital for assessment.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
