Fine Gael has selected the Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam to contest the forthcoming Dublin Central by-election.
The by-election is to replace former Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, who resigned as a TD last November to become Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank.
The vote is expected to take place in May along with the other contest in Galway West.
Mr McAdam was selected by party delegates at a convention in the Ashling Hotel in Dublin city this evening.
He was first elected to Dublin City Council in 2009 and has been re-elected in subsequent local elections.
Mr McAdam topped the poll in his area in the local elections in 2024.
He said he was "deeply honoured" to have been selected as Fine Gael's candidate.
"For 17 years, I have had the privilege of serving communities across this constituency as a local councillor, and as Lord Mayor, I have sought to stand up for a Dublin that is ambitious, inclusive, safe and open to all.
"Now I want to bring that same record of delivery, that same energy, and that same belief in the potential of our capital city to Dáil Éireann," he said.
Party leader and Tánaiste Simon Harris said Mr McAdam "will make an excellent TD in Dáil Éireann and I very much look forward to visiting Dublin Central and meeting people on the doors as we seek support for Ray's candidacy."
Other declared candidates so far include Green Party Councillor Janet Horner, Councillor Daniel Ennis for the Social Democrats and Sinn Féín Councillor Janice Boylan.
People Before Profit-Solidarity is running Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, while Aontú's candidate will be Ian Noel Smyth.
Gerry 'the Monk Hutch' and Councillor Malachy Steenson have also said they will run again.
