Gardaí are trying to identify the victim of what they describe as "a vicious assault" in Dublin city centre.
The man was attacked by two men on Cope Street in Temple Bar shortly after arriving there on an e-scooter at around 12.30am yesterday morning.
He was also hit a number of times with the e-scooter after it was taken from him.
The man was discovered unconscious on the ground and was brought to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
Gardaí said the man has a tattoo on the inside of his right forearm. They have described it as a blue and white flag with the words "Ceol is Beatha".
Gardaí have been unable to speak to the victim and do not know who he is or his age as he had no identification - such as a driver's licence or bank cards - on him and they have issued information on the tattoo to try to identify him.
Gardaí are hoping some family, relatives or friends will recognise the tattoo and contact them.
The scene has been forensically examined and CCTV footage was gathered from the area.
They have also issued an appeal to anyone who was in the Cope Street area between 12am and 1am yesterday who may have information, mobile or dash cam footage to contact them.
Gardaí can be contacted at Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
