A man in his 80s has died after he got into difficulty in the water off Dublin Bay yesterday.

Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard said it was called to assist the Coast Guard rescue 116 helicopter with an operation after Dublin Port reported people on the Great South Wall during stormy sea conditions

The Coast Guard identified a person in the water and tried to rescue them but the rough sea conditions prevented this.

The man's body was later recovered in an operation involving gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service

It is believed he may have been with a younger family member before he entered the water.

In a post on social media, Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard appealed to the public to stay clear of the coastline in stormy sea conditions.
