A man is due in court in Dublin next month in connection with the theft of a truck which was driven into a GAA grounds during nursery and juvenile training sessions last weekend.
The truck, which had a mini digger on the back, was stolen from a nearby building site last Saturday morning.
It was then driven into the grounds of Na Fianna in Glasnevin at around 11am, just as the nursery sessions for young children were ending.
Na Fianna is one of hundreds of GAA clubs all over the country which hosts nursery and juvenile training sessions on Saturday mornings for children aged four to 12.
The theft was spotted by a motorist and motorcyclist and it is believed the driver drove the truck into Na Fianna's grounds to try to get away.
The truck then crashed into the side of a parked car, scraping the doors and removing the wing and wing mirror before the driver jumped out while the truck was still moving.
It then continue to roll in to another parked car while the driver tried to escape into the grounds of the adjoining Scoil Chaitríona.
He then apparently tried to steal a bicycle but was spotted by a group of parents, two of whom were off duty gardaí.
He was pursued across the GAA fields, through Griffith Park pubic park before the off duty gardaí caught him on Drumcondra Road near Fagan's pub, around 1.5km away.
Gardaí say a man was arrested and has since been charged with stealing a truck and the theft of a bicycle.
He is due to appear before the Dublin District Court on 4 December.
A spokesperson for Na Fianna GAA club said they were relieved that no-one, particularly none of the young children, were hurt during the incident and stressed that the nursery and juvenile training sessions will continue next week.
