Gardaí believe the bodies of a man and child discovered at a house in Finglas in Dublin are those of a father and his daughter.
The bodies have been removed from the scene and an investigation is under way into the deaths.
It is understood they are from eastern Europe.
Emergency services and gardaí were called to the house in the Heathfield estate shortly before 8pm last night, where the bodies of an adult man and a girl, who is believed as young as six, were found.
The bodies were removed from the scene by ambulance at around midday and post mortem examinations will now be carried out.
Gardaí are keeping an open mind on the case but there does not appear to be any sign of a break-in or indication of any third party involvement.
However, they are stressing it is a very early stage in the investigation.
An incident room under a senior investigating officer has been set up and a family liaison officer has been appointed.
The housing estate is located close to Cappagh Hospital.
Today a playground on the green in the estate lay empty as a garda technical team carried out their forensic examination nearby.
