A part of the Luas Red line in Dublin will remain closed for several weeks following a fire earlier this week.

Luas operator Transdev has said that the services, between Connolly and The Point, will be closed for "several weeks at a minimum" due damage caused by the fire in the Docklands area on Tuesday evening.

Initially, services were to stay closed for at least a week but that has now been extended.

According to Transdev, an initial investigation into the fire showed that there was significant damage done to George's Dock Bridge.

The company said that structural engineering assessments are ongoing and that services cannot resume until safety checks are complete.

It also said that Luas services between Tallaght/Saggart and Connolly are still operating.

Luas tickets are still valid on Dublin Bus services between Connolly and The Point, according to Transdev.
