A man has been seriously injured in an assault in Dublin city centre.

It happened at Rosie Hackett Bridge, on Eden Quay at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

Gardaí say one man was taken to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries.

A man in his 30s was arrested and he is being held at a Garda Station in the Dublin city area.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses who were in the vicinity of Rosie Hackett Bridge between 4pm and 5pm to come forward.

Anyone with mobile phone or dash-cam footage is asked to make it available to gardaí.
