A man in his 20s has been arrested after a garda was knocked down in Dublin.
The garda was hit by a stolen motorcycle and sustained serious leg injuries on the North Road in Finglas at around 5.45pm.
He was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for treatment of a serious but not life-threatening injury.
The garda, who is in his 30s, is a member of the Finglas Drugs Unit.
The unit was carrying out a drugs patrol in the area at the time.
The driver of the motorbike tried to escape on foot but was chased and apprehended by other gardaí.
He is being detained at a garda station in west Dublin.
Gardaí have appealed to witnesses to come forward and contact them at Finglas Garda Station on 01-6667500, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
The Garda Representative Association has commended the injured garda's colleagues who intervened and wished him a full recovery.
General Secretary Ronan Slevin said: "Today’s serious injury sustained by a member of the Finglas Drugs Unit once again serves as a sad and stark reminder of the dangers faced by our colleagues on a daily basis".
