A man in his 50s has died in a collision on Dublin's M50.

The incident between a motorbike and a car occurred southbound near Junction 7 Lucan/Palmerstown just after 12.30pm

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and post-mortem examination will be carried out in the coming days.

Its understood he was travelling as part of a convoy of motorbikes.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision

They are also asking anyone who was travelling in either direction on the M50 around that time and who have footage, including dash cam footage, to make it available to gardaí.

Part of the motorway, at Junction 6 Blanchardstown, was closed for around six hours while emergency services attended the incident and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out an examination of the scene.

The M50 is now fully reopened and while there were delays, it is believed most motorists heeded warnings and avoided the area.
