Five men and a woman have been arrested following the abduction and torture of another man during the week.

More than 100 gardaí, including the specialist units, raided several homes in the greater Blanchardstown area this morning as part of an investigation into an organised crime group in west Dublin.

A house suspected of being the location where the man was held against his will has been sealed off as a crime scene and is being forensically examined.

The five men arrested today are all known to the gardaí for involvement in serious and organised crime.

Four are in their 20s and one is in his 40s, while three are brothers from a well-known family in the area with a reputation for extreme violence. The woman is aged in her 30s.

Gardaí involved in today's operation

Gardaí from Blanchardstown also seized drugs and firearms earlier this week as part of the investigation.

A man had been lured to a meeting with fellow criminals but was attacked, held against his will and tortured.

It is understood he was burned and suffered serious non-fatal life-long injuries during the attack, which continued for a number of hours.

Along with local detectives, the armed Emergency Response Unit, the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Technical Bureau and the Dublin Crime Response Team are involved in this today’s operation, which is ongoing.

There have been a number of violent attacks, including shootings and pipe bombings, in the west Dublin area since the murders of Jason Hennessy and Tristan Sherry at a restaurant in Blanchardstown in December 2023.

The murders were part of an ongoing feud between rival criminal gangs.

The Special Criminal Court is due to give its verdict next Monday in the cases of six men who are currently before the courts in relation to that attack.
