Man charged after gardaí threatened with samurai sword

A man who threatened gardaí with a samurai sword in west Dublin last week has been charged.

The incident occurred when unarmed uniformed gardaí went to arrest the man in the Blanchardstown area, but he threatened and chased them with the sword.

He also attacked the garda patrol car.

Gardaí called for armed backup but the man fled the scene.

The incident was captured on video and widely circulated on social media.

The man was subsequently arrested in Dublin and charged with a number of offences.

He is due before the Dublin District Court this morning
