Dublin Bay South has the most crèche places per child in the country, according to new findings published today.

Location intelligence provider Gamma Labs has compared the number of crèche places with the number of children under the age of four across 43 constituencies.

It found that Cork South-West and Dublin South-West have the fewest number of places.

There are currently 41 crèche places on average for every 73 children aged between 0 and 4 years nationwide.

While the children may not be seeking a place in a crèche due to age or household arrangements, the ratios aim to indicate the demand on childcare services in the country according to the company.

It looked at constituencies with the highest and lowest ratios of children per crèche place and found that Dublin Bay South has the largest number of childcare places (1.4 children per place).

This was followed by Dublin Rathdown, Galway East, Galway West, Limerick City and Sligo-Leitrim (all 1.5), who were the only other constituencies in the country with 1.5 children per place or less.

Ten constituencies had a ratio of 2 children or more per crèche place.

Cork South-West, and Dublin South-West were the least well provisioned constituencies with 2.2 children per place.

Cork North Central, Dublin Central, Dublin Mid-West, Dublin West and Offaly all had ratios of 2.1, while Dublin Fingal West, Limerick County, and Louth had ratios of two children per crèche space.
