Train users have been warned to expect "significant disruption" on travel to and from Heuston Station in Dublin following a tragic incident on the line in Co Kildare.

The line was closed between Kildare town and Newbridge since 2.30pm.

It reopened shortly after 5.30pm with services beginning to depart from Heuston.

However Iarnród Éireann has told passengers that there will be significant disruption on all Heuston Commuter and Intercity routes this evening.

Some services have been cancelled, including the 4.25pm Cork to Heuston service.
