A member of the Dublin Fire Brigade Pipe Band has said he is "heartbroken" after items, including a Glengarry Hat and sporran, were stolen from a car last week.

Dublin Fire Brigade issued an appeal on X this afternoon appealing to the public to be on the lookout for the items, which are said to be of great sentimental value.

They were stolen from a car that was broken into in the Portmarnock area of Co Dublin in the early hours of last Friday.

Band member Eddie Duffy and retired firefighter said it is impossible to put a price on the items, as they were handed down to him over the years from previous band members, as is tradition.

Eddie Duffy said the tradition is to hand down items to band members

He said he takes great pride in being part of the Dublin Fire Brigade Pipe Band, having joined nine years ago, and it is now a big part of his life.

"These items are no good to anyone, and the robbery was a petty opportunistic crime.

"It would mean everything to me to get them back. They are not necessarily difficult items to replace, but the tradition means a lot that they were passed on to me, and I feel awful that this happened when they were in my care.

"I'm heartbroken over it".

He added that his son had just started in the fire service last week, and he had hoped to pass these items on to the next generation if possible.

Dublin Fire Brigade said on X that anyone who finds the items can return them to any fire station in Dublin or make contact directly reporting any sightings.

"We would love to see the member reunited with these items ... please contact us if you happen to find them whilst out walking."
