A suspicious device which caused major disruption in the northeast inner city of Dublin was found to be a hoax.

All traffic restriction were lifted following the incident in Fairview which caused traffic chaos around the area at rush hour on Thursday.

The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit were called to examine the device which was discovered at around 4.20pm outside a house on Fairview Strand.

They carried out two controlled explosions on the object following an analysis and technical examination of the scene.

The Defence Forces said the operation had concluded and the scene was handed over to An Garda Síochána.

The roads closed as part of the operation later reopened.
