An investigation is under way into an arson attack on a building in south Dublin which was being considered for international protection applicants.

The attack on St John's House, a vacant property on High Street in Tallaght, happened at around 11pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the fire was brought under control a short time later.

It appears to have been caused by a suspected pipe bomb.

No one was injured in the incident and gardaí in Tallaght have appealed for anyone with information or footage to contact them.

It is the second such attack this week following a suspected arson attack on a site in Clonmel, Co Tipperary which was being developed for modular housing for refugees.
