Seventy-one new social homes were officially opened by Dublin City Council today.

The development, Springvale Grove in Chapelizod, consists of 21 one-bedroom units and 30 two-bedroom homes.

The council says the units were built using a system of factory manufactured light gauge steel panels which it says allows for greater scale and density.

One new resident, who moved in three weeks ago was on the council's housing waiting list for eleven years.

Karen Power and her son have moved in to Springvale Grove

Karen Power said she was "delighted" with her new home and said she was "shocked" when she got the call to say she and her son would be moving in.
