The sod has been turned on a multi-million euro development of Balbriggan's Quay Street and Harbour in Co Dublin.

The project is designed to turn the north county Dublin town, which has the youngest population in the country, into a visitor destination.

The 19,300 square metre site will include a multi-purpose plaza area and linear park designed to host markets, events and festivals.

The €15 million project is the largest element of the €50m 2019-2030 Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme, which came about following a community engagement project in 2019.

More than 25% of residents outline their preferences for the future of the town, with strong support for reimagining the Harbour and Quay St area.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, joined the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy, to turn the sod on the project.

The work is expected to be complete in late 2025.
