Over €4m worth of cannabis seized in Dublin and Meath

Gardaí and revenue officers have seized more than €4 million worth of cannabis in separate seizures in counties Dublin and Meath.

Two men were arrested after around 120kg of herbal cannabis, worth around €2.4m, was seized in Meath yesterday.

The seizure was part of a joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime bureau and the Revenue Customs Service.

The drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis.

The men, who are both aged in their 50s, are currently being detained at a garda station in Meath.

Revenue officers also seized herbal cannabis and cannabis resin worth almost €1.7m in Dublin from parcels originating from Spain.

The discoveries were made as a result of risk profiling at a premises in Dublin over the course of last week.

Some 82kgs of herbal cannabis and 9kgs of cannabis resin were seized by Revenue officers.

The parcels were destined for addresses throughout Leinster.

The seizures were part of Revenue's ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economic activity, it said.

Investigations are ongoing, a Revenue spokesperson said.
