A car park in Dublin city centre has been closed after a number of vehicles went on fire.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze off Jervis Street before 6pm.

It is understood that the fire started in one vehicle on the third floor of the car park.

The fire then quickly spread, resulting in four vehicles going on fire.

The building was evacuated and remains closed.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that five fire appliances, two senior officers and a turntable ladder attended the fire, which was brought under control at 6.40pm.

Members of the public were allowed into the car park to collect their vehicles after the blaze was brought under control.

Luas services which had been stopped to deal with the fire are now operating normally.
