A woman was rescued from a burning house in Dublin after two gardaí climbed through an upstairs window.
An investigation into potential arson is under way after a large fire engulfed a house on Buirg An Rí Walk in Clondalkin at around 1.30am this morning.
There were four occupants in the house at the time, and three managed to get out safely before emergency services arrived.
Two gardaí used a ladder to gain access to the back of the house after being informed that someone may have been trapped.
They managed to get in through a window and found a woman in her 50s who they brought to safety.
The gardaí were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation before being discharged.
The woman was also taken to Tallaght Hospital to be treated for injuries that are believed to be non life-threatening.
Gardaí say they believe the fire may have been started deliberately, and the scene has been sealed for a technical examination.
Superintendent Mike McNulty of Ronanstown Garda Station said he wanted to "commend the incredible bravery" of the two members and added that he has "no doubt that their actions prevented a more tragic outcome".
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
