Pedestrian dies after being struck by bus in Dublin

A pedestrian in his 20s has died after he was struck by a bus in Dublin city centre last night.

The incident occurred at the corner of Store Street and Amiens Street at around 11.30pm.

Ciarán Briody was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the City Morgue at Whitehall where a post-mortem is expected to take place in the coming days.

No other injuries were reported and a family liasion has been appointed to the family of the deceased.

A technical examination of the scene has been carried out and road closures have been lifted.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses, particularly those with camera footage, who were in the Amiens Street/Store Street area between 11.15pm and 11.45pm last night, to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

The man's death brings to six the number of people killed on Irish roads since Monday, including three members of the same family in a crash in Co Tipperary on Tuesday night.

Busáras was closed due to the incident, but has since reopened, and Bus Éireann services have returned to normal.

Luas Red Line services had been curtailed, but a full service has resumed.
