Around 50 food delivery drivers and cyclists gathered in Dublin's O'Connell Street and Trinity College area this afternoon to highlight growing concerns over abuse, violence and a lack of safety they are facing while conducting their work.

The protesters met between O'Connell Bridge and D'Olier Street before holding a rally calling for safety levels to improve and for the Government and gardaí to take action on the issue.

The protests - which come after a Bolivian worker was stabbed earlier this month - come amid growing public discussion over violence and abuse in Dublin city centre.

A number of people who attended today's protest, which with the permission of gardaí travelled along D'Olier Street and onto Dame Street, said they no longer feel safe working in the city.

Others highlighted assaults including broken arms, wounds requiring stitches and the robbery of their vehicles, which they said are increasingly common.

The protest was supported by the English Language Students Union.
