Man, 30s, critically injured in Dublin assault

A man in his 30s is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in Dublin last night.

The attack happened near the junction of Foley Street and Buckingham Street Lower in the north inner city at around 10.50pm.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment where gardaí say he is critically ill.

A man, also aged in his 30s, has been arrested and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a garda station in Dublin.

An appeal for witnesses to the assault has been made.

Any road users and pedestrians who were in the area between 10.30pm and 11pm last night and who may have camera footage are asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
