Fianna Fáil Councillor Daithí de Róiste has been elected the new Lord Mayor of Dublin.

The 35-year-old has represented the Ballyfermot/Drimnagh area for almost a decade, having first been elected to Dublin CIty Council in 2014.

Councillor De Róiste was presented with the chain of office by the outgoing Lord Mayor, Green Party Councillor Caroline Conroy, after a vote of the council this evening.

He is the 355th person to be elected Lord Mayor of Dublin

A communications professional, he has been involved in community work since his teens.

His Fianna Fail colleague Councillor Clare O'Connor has been elected the Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin
