Around 200 people have attended an anti-racism rally in Ballyfermot this evening to welcome and show solidarity with those coming to the Dublin community.

The newly formed group, Ballyfermot Cherry Orchard for All', organised the event in the People's Park supported by Dublin City Council.

Hundreds of flags from all over the world were planted in the grass.

Organisers said they want to send a strong message that there is 'No Place For Racism’ in our communities.

Jerry McCarthy told those gathered that the "Sea of flags" represent the nations surrounding us.

He said everyone is welcome in this community and "we need to raise our voices when we hear of injustices".

He said the people fleeing a war are not responsible for the problems in Ireland.

Fiona Kearney attended with her 15-month-old son Jack "to support the inclusion of all communities".
