A 39-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in Dublin last Friday night.
Brian Hogan was stabbed to death at Collins Place in Finglas at around 7pm.
Gardaí commenced a murder investigation and questioned two men, one of whom has since been released without charge.
Keith Smithers, with an address at Barry Close, Finglas, was brought by detectives from Finglas to Blanchardstown District Court this morning.
He was charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Hogan, also 39, at Collins Place.
Sergeant Shane Behan told the court today that Mr Smithers was arrested at 2.40pm yesterday afternoon and charged 45 minutes later.
Mr Smithers is accused of assaulting Mr Hogan causing him serious harm, a charge to which the court heard he made no reply.
There was no application for bail as the defence solicitor said he needed time to take instructions from his client.
The court was told Mr Smithers was on social welfare and receiving €202 a week.
Judge David McHugh remanded Mr Smithers in custody to appear again at Blanchardstown District Court next Thursday for a possible bail application.
