A new 100-bed Rehabilitation and Residential Unit has been officially opened at Peamount Healthcare in Newcastle, Co Dublin.

The Aberdeen Centre includes 50 additional beds for specialist rehabilitation, including 25 for age-related rehabilitation services, 15 for neuro-rehabilitation for under-65s and 10 for rheumatology rehabilitation patients.

Peamount CEO Shona Schneeman said the new facility will mean better patient experiences for residents and better outcomes for patients following stroke, trauma or hospitalisation.

The facility was officially opened by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.
