Two people have been arrested after two firearms were seized following separate searches in north Dublin between yesterday and today.

Shortly after 11pm last night, gardaí out on patrol stopped a male cyclist, aged in his 40s, in the Shangan Gardens area of Ballymun.

A loaded firearm was recovered, and the man was arrested.

He is currently being held at Ballymun Garda Station.

A follow-up search was then carried out earlier today at a house in the Finglas area, during which a machine pistol, two loaded magazines, two silencers and a quantity of ammunition were recovered.

A woman in her 50s was arrested, and is also being detained at Ballymun Station.
