Dublin Airport busy, but 'signs of progress' on wait times

Passengers urged to check with airlines over bag drop times
Passengers urged to check with airlines over bag drop times

People intending to fly out of Dublin Airport over the Easter period are being urged not to arrive more than three-and-a-half hours before their flight.

Graeme McQueen of the daa said the airport is still very busy and is expected to stay busy over the next few days due to the Easter holidays.

"We're certainly doing our best to make sure that everyone makes the flight at the moment."

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr McQueen said there have been "real signs of progress in the last couple of weeks, but it is still busy.

"It's going to be really busy over the coming days going through Easter, so the recommendation from us is to get to the airport up to three-and-a-half hours in advance and that'll give you plenty of time to make your flight."

He said there is no point in people coming to the airport ahead of the time they can check their bags in, which differs from airline to airline.

Mr McQueen said people should check with their airline on how far in advance they can check in bags because it may actually be just two hours before a flight departs.

He said there is a task force at the airport on hand to give advice and to help people get ready for security and "just to help that passenger experience in the airport be that little bit better".

"There's no point coming unless you can check your bags in. So, it's really important that people do check with the airline when they can drop in their bags".

He said new information on this will be published on the daa website today letting passengers know when they can check in their bags and when they can check in for their flight.

He said wait times in Terminal 1 was 38 minutes at peak time this morning and 50 minutes in Terminal 2.

"That's longer than we'd ideally like. But it's not enough for anyone who's there in plenty of time to miss their flight, so we're hopeful that those numbers are going to stay like that over the Easter period, and we can get everyone off to where they need to be to", he said.
