Dublin has moved up the rankings of expensive cities and is now the 11th most costly European city to live in according to the latest figures.

High rents mean Dublin ranks ahead of Amsterdam, Vienna and Munich when it comes to cost of relocation for workers.

Dublin is up one place to 11th in Europe compared to last year and has moved up to 37th globally, compared to 43rd last year.

Geneva is the most expensive in Europe while London is third, Paris eighth and Luxembourg City tenth with the rest of the top ten being Scandinavian and other Swiss cities.

The survey found that the collapse in tourism has meant cheaper rents in cities such as Reykjavik, which Dublin has overtaken in the rankings.

Globally Hong Kong is the most expensive city followed by Tokyo and New York, though the report found that lower oil prices had also lowered the cost of living.

As well as accommodation costs the survey compares shopping basket items and found that a 100g bar of chocolate costs €2.17 in Dublin compared to €1.77 in London.
